During pregnancy, significant changes occur in both the body and mind. Turning inward and practising listening to your body can be helpful. Pregnancy yoga prepares both your body and mind for childbirth and many yoga positions can also be used as birthing positions!

The benefits of pregnancy yoga are numerous, including:

  • Increased energy
  • Stimulated circulation
  • Better connection with your body
  • Reduced back pain
  • Lowered stress levels

Listen to your body

The most important aspect of practising yoga during pregnancy is to try and listen to your body. Experiment and find what feels comfortable for you, keeping in mind that it may vary during different stages of pregnancy.

Things to consider:

  • Listen to your body, only do what feels good and adapt the exercises
  • If you're tired, prioritise taking it easy and practice activities that provide long-term energy
  • If you have energy, use it
  • Make room for the growing baby in the uterus
