Pregnancy can bring big changes to your skin, from glow to dryness, sensitivity, or breakouts. A simple, gentle routine can help you care for your skin while keeping both you and your baby in mind.

Keep it simple

Now is not the time for complicated routines. A mild cleanser, a moisturizer, and sunscreen are often enough. Fewer products mean fewer potential irritants. That said, if you already enjoy skincare and it feels good for you, it’s okay to keep your routine, just be mindful of ingredients and how your skin responds.

Choose gentle ingredients

Look for fragrance-free and hypoallergenic products, especially if your skin feels more sensitive than usual. Avoid strong actives and remove retinoids (retinol, retinal, tretinoin) and high-dose salicylic acid from your routine. If you’re unsure about a product, consult a healthcare professional.

Hydration is key

Hormonal changes can make skin drier. Use a nourishing moisturizer to support the skin barrier and reduce tightness or itching.

Sun protection matters

Pregnancy can increase the risk of pigmentation, such as melasma. Daily sunscreen helps protect your skin and prevent dark spots from becoming more noticeable.

Listen to your skin

Your skin’s needs may change throughout pregnancy. If something stings, burns, or feels uncomfortable, stop using it and switch to something gentler. Your concerns will probably also change, so keeping your routine simple and consistent is usually more effective than trying to “fix” everything.

A pregnancy-safe skincare routine doesn’t have to be complicated. Gentle care, consistency, and listening to your body go a long way.
