One of the most common and earliest pregnancy symptoms is nausea. About 80% of all expectant mothers report feeling nauseous or vomiting at some point during pregnancy. Nausea usually starts sometime after the fourth week when pregnancy hormones surge.

Symptoms are usually worse in weeks 7–10 and then subside around weeks 12–14. Some experience mild nausea, mainly in the morning, while others have severe discomfort and vomit several times a day for an extended period.

To alleviate nausea, you can:

  • Eat small, frequent meals.
  • Have a carbohydrate snack for a snack, such as fruit or a sandwich.
  • Eat something before getting out of bed after sleeping.
  • Eat boiled food without strong spices.
  • Avoid overly fatty foods.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, especially if you vomit frequently.
  • Practice yoga. It's good to know that the body always ensures that the baby receives the necessary nutrients for development, so you don't need to worry about the baby being affected if you vomit.
