Hypnobirthing is a method where you mentally prepare and strengthen yourself for childbirth using various techniques, such as positive thoughts, relaxation, visualisation, breathing, concentration and deep relaxation. The methods involve learning to take control of your nervous system and mental focus and daring to disconnect thoughts to let childbirth happen. Part of hypnobirthing is also understanding the physiological functioning of the body, how our bodies are affected by stress and anxiety and - on the opposite end - by security, calmness and peace.Essentially, hypnobirthing involves regularly listening to and practising exercises that help you build a mental image for the upcoming birth. To get the best possible help from hypnobirthing, it's good to start practising well before childbirth. The recommendation is to practise every day from week 30 of pregnancy. As with any training: the more you practise, the better you become.
