Braxton-Hicks contractions and Labor contractions

Braxton-Hicks contractions

  • Are irregular
  • Strong pressure on the lower part of the uterus
  • No correlation between the hardness of the uterus and the pain
  • Mucus plug / Fibrin clot
  • No change in the cervix
  • The baby’s head is not descending into the birth canal

Labor contractions

  • Are regular
  • Come more frequently
  • Duration and intensity increase
  • The pain is in the back and the groin area over the pubic bone
  • Correlation between the hardness of the uterus and the pain
  • Bloody show
  • The cervix thins out and dilates
  • The baby’s head starts to descend into the birth canal
